Rx. et Rz. Notopterygii Qiang Huo 15g Releases the Exterior, disperses Cold, expels Wind-Cold-Dampness, unblocks painful obstruction (Bi), alleviates pain, increases joint mobility and guides Qi to the Tai Yang and DU channels.
With Fang Feng, for pain due to External Wind-Dampness.
With Fang Feng and Jiang Huang, for Wind-Cold-Damp Bi.
Rx. Saposhnikoviae Fang Feng 12g Releases the Exterior, expels External Wind, expels Wind-Dampness and alleviates pain.
With Qiang Huo, Jiang Huang, Zhi Gan Cao and Dang Gui, for Wind-Cold-Damp Bi.
Rx. Angelica Sinensis Dang Gui 12g Tonifies, invigorates and harmonizes Blood, disperses Cold and stops pain.
With Bai Shao, regulates and harmonizes Qi and Blood.
Rx. Glycyrrhizae Preparata Zhi Gan Cao 6g Moderates spasms, alleviates pain, moderates and harmonizes the harsh properties of the other herbs and prevents injury to normal Qi.
Rx. Paeoniae Rubra Chi Shao 12g Invigorates the Blood, dispels Blood Stasis and relieves pain.
With Bai Shao, for spasms and cramping pain associated with Blood Deficiency and Blood Stagnation.
Rx. Paeoniae Alba Bai Shao 12g Nourishes the Blood, astringes Yin, adjusts the Ying and Wei and alleviates pain.
With Zhi Gan Cao, for muscle spasms, pain and numbness due to Blood Deficiency.
With Dang Gui, nourishes Yin and Blood.
Rz. Curcuma Longae Jiang Huang 12g Invigorates the Blood, eliminates Blood Stasis, promotes the movement of Qi, expels Wind and opens the channels and collaterals to alleviate pain.
With Qiang Huo, Fang Feng and Dang Gui, for Wind-Damp-Bi, especially of the shoulder.
Rz. Zingiberis Recens Sheng Jiang 6g Releases the Exterior, induces perspiration, disperses Cold, warms the Lungs, stops coughing, adjusts the Ying and Wei and reduces the toxicity of other herbs.

CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS

  • Head, neck, shoulder and upper back aching and pain
  • Fixed neck pain
  • Tender points on the neck
  • A possible palpable cord-like feeling in the neck
  • A stiff neck
  • Inhibited movement
  • Pain, soreness and numbness of the four limbs
  • Maybe weakness and heaviness of the upper limbs
  • Heavy-headedness
  • Aversion to Cold
  • Prefers Heat
  • Severe:
    Withering of the arm muscles
    Difficulty extending and flexing the fingers
    Maybe complete loss of sensation and rigidity of the fingers
